CREATIVE EXERCISES TO RECHARGE YOUR EYE DURING THE HOLIDAYS

The holidays can pull us away from our photography, but these simple creative exercises can bring you back to looking and shooting again. Whether you’re in a rut, short on time, or just want to play with your camera, these prompts offer an easy shift in perspective. No big setup needed—just curiosity and a few minutes to experiment.

Try some of the below prompts:

1. Shoot Street Lamps

Create images using street lamps—no natural light allowed. Let the glow guide your mood. Street signs, holiday or string lights can become interesting sources once you start looking.

2. Monochrome Images

Photograph clothing, light, or textures — it’s a simple way to train your eye to mute available color and start thinking in monochromatic images.

3. Reflections

Challenge yourself to photograph through reflections. Look for water, mirrors, windows, or shiny surfaces. The subject becomes secondary—what matters is how you frame the distortion and the light.

4. Photograph Stillness

Choose scene and photograph it. It could be a corner of your home, a vase, or looking through a doorway. Notice how the light shifts.
