THE 10X10 HOLIDAY CHALLENGE: SHARPEN YOUR EYE IN JUST 10 MINUTES

Note: Commissions may be earned from the links below.

The holidays can leave many of us feeling a bit bored or creatively flat. If you’re needing a small push, this exercise is an easy way to reset your eye: the 10×10 Challenge.

Here’s how it works:

Choose one subject—it could be a cup, a tree, a pair of shoes, anything nearby. Then take 10 different photos of that subject in just 10 minutes. That’s it!

It might sound simple, but the beauty is in the limitations. When you’re working against the clock, with only one subject, you’re forced to look harder, move around, and make creative choices about light, angle, and composition.

Some tips:

– Try getting above it, below it, behind it

– Use reflections, shadows, or unusual framing

– Change your exposure slightly between shots to create variety

Below is my experimentation.

This simple exercise strengthens your eye and your instincts. The best part? It takes under 15 minutes. I encourage you to try this exercise—not for anything other than pushing your creativity under a little pressure.

Happiest New Year and as always, best of luck!
