CREATIVE REFLECTION: WHEN SHADOWS BECOME PART OF THE PHOTOGRAPH
I am often drawn to photographs with visible shadow, texture, reflections, and contrast. Sometimes those elements create more atmosphere than perfectly even lighting ever could.
For this small product photography study, I worked mainly with hard natural light and reflective surfaces to create a mood that felt calm yet sculptural.
Here, I intentionally introduced additional shadows into the frame. The reflected light patterns, shell textures, and darker areas all became part of the final composition. The black-and-white finish also helped strip the images down to light, texture, shadow, and form.

One thing I enjoy about natural light, and in this case hard light, is how quickly it can create atmosphere when you stop trying to control every shadow perfectly. Sometimes, the shadows are what make the photograph interesting.
As always, best of luck!
